Lead VDI Engineer

Vanguard's Workspace Engineering team is responsible for the technologies and capabilities to deliver a virtual workspace for end users to perform their duties remotely through virtual desktops and smartphones.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced senior engineer passionate about delivering a great experience to users through modern endpoint management tools and practices. As a Senior Workspace Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing virtual desktop and application solutions across different clouds and on-prem offerings.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams, to architect and deliver robust, scalable, and secure solutions and participate in the development of user stories, sprint planning, and test case development / execution within an agile project environment.

**This is a hybrid role (in-office Tues-Wed-Thurs) can based in either Charlotte, NC, or Wayne, Pennsylvania. This position cannot be based remote and would require relocation for candidates currently living outside of either business locations**

In this Role you will:

• Design and implement Horizon Cloud on Azure (HCoA) or Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) solutions to meet end user requirements.
• Maintain existing Horizon infrastructure while migrating to a new platform.
• Design and implement profile management policies using Dynamic Environment Management and FSLogix.
• Maintain vulnerability and risk compliance across the platform ecosystem.
• Work with our internal clients to build new secure VDI or Published App solutions for our corporate business requirements.
• Security and Compliance: Implement security best practices and compliance policies within the platform.
• Documentation and Training: Create detailed documentation for other engineers and administrators to understand and implement.
• Monitoring and Alerting: Create monitoring and alerting using tools like Azure Monitor, Thousand Eyes, Systrack, and Splunk.
• Provide troubleshooting expertise with escalations from support and operations teams.
• Collaborate with the architecture team to ensure alignment with broader infrastructure goals.
• Following ITIL industry-standard processes and procedures.
• Stay up to date with the latest technology trends and advancements in endpoint devices and support techniques.
• Work with Product Managers, Scrum Leaders, and team members on special projects.
• Have interpersonal skills necessary to work with various individuals and teams of engineers, clients, and leaders across the company.

What it Takes:

• Undergraduate degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• 5 or more years of experience diagnosing and solving problems in a Windows environment.
• Experience with implementing, deploying, and supporting virtual infrastructure with Horizon and AVD.
• Expertise with Workspace One and Intune.
• Experience with profile management products like DEM and FSLogix.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Working knowledge of network fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, and routing protocols.
• Comfortable with security and compliance best practices.

Specializations that’ll have an impact:

• Relevant certifications for VMware or Microsoft.
• Advanced knowledge of AVD, Azure, and Intune, and endpoint architecture.
• Experience automating daily tasks to increase productivity and maintain quality deployments for the end user.
• Experience migrating from on-prem to a cloud solution like Horizon on Azure or AVD.
• Working knowledge of F5, ZScaler, Okta, Thousand Eyes, Splunk, and Systrack.
• Experience leading and mentoring staff, technical support organizations.
• Experience with production readiness review process.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple problems simultaneously.
