Within our Analytical Services team, we have a functional service provider solution, which is a unique partnership that allows our customers to leverage the experience of our staff, while allowing you, the employee, to gain direct experience working onsite at a pharmaceutical/ biopharmaceutical company, all while maintaining full-time benefits.

This is a fully onsite role based at our customer’s site in San Diego, CA. We welcome applicants from all locations within the US. Please note that relocation assistance is not provided for this position, and any relocation costs will be the responsibility of the candidate.

Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes a drug screening.

In addition to all of the responsibilities associated with the Animal Technician II position, the Animal Technician III level will perform animal care and husbandry duties on multiple species in accordance with AAALAC standards and the Client' SOPs/policies. Observe, monitor and document the health and physical environment within the client’s animal facility. Perform a variety of technical procedures on research rodents. Must have previous relevant experience providing excellent service or promoted into this role after a period of continuous, excellent service.

Normally 40 hours per week, including mutually recognized holidays as stated above. Occasional weekends on a rotating basis. The hours may be implemented on a sliding workweek such as Sunday through Thursday, or Tuesday through Saturday, as needed.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced Animal Care Technicians, this may include providing on-the-job training or observation.
• Identify opportunities for process refinement and improvement to Genentech Management
• Interface with Management and reinforce program communications and standards
• Review, comprehend and comply with all SOPs, guidelines/policies, training provided both verbally and written, protocols, and quality assurance standards pertaining to assigned responsibilities and to the care and use of laboratory animals for research. All job responsibilities assigned and performed at the Client site require adherence to these standards.
• Monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations utilizing an assignediPadD or tablet device. Perform animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include: perform daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.
• Work closely with Veterinary Staff, assist with animal sample collection and other in vivo procedures as assigned by the on-site facility veterinarian or veterinary staff member.
• Provide service daily to the researchers to ensure study animals receive medicated diet and/or water and any other special housing requests outlined in their study protocol. Direct communication and interaction may be required between employee and researcher.
• Perform a variety of technical procedures on rodents, such as, ear tagging, shaving, blood collection, tissue sampling, glucose monitoring, fasting, etc.
