The Johns Hopkins University Student Health & Well-Being (SHWB) practice group supports well-being, primary care, and mental health services for JHU students and learners across all nine schools within the University. Our integrated service delivery model provides dynamic health and well-being promotion, support and programming, student disability services including guidance and resources, and in-person primary and mental health care options at our clinics as well as remote support through phone and online resources.

We are a seeking a Clinical Nurse for a full-time position located primarily in the East Baltimore office with responsibilities for the East Baltimore and DC clinics. Additionally, there is a requirement for availability to travel to other Baltimore area campuses and the DC campus for service delivery and in-person meetings, when necessary. This may include being available on evenings and weekends for outreach programs and crisis or emergency response.
The Clinic Nurse works within their clinical scope of practice to provide comprehensive, age-appropriate care to the students/learners of Johns Hopkins University as part of the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver care that is culturally competent, affirming a wide range of student/learner identities, and promoting the diversity, equity, and inclusion values of the Student Health and Well-Being practice.
- Utilize SHWB primary care policies, procedures, and protocols to guide direct patient care.
- Create and maintain an environment of patient-focused care, anticipating and appropriately responding to student/learner needs and ensuring that the student/learners’ overall experience meets or exceeds standards of medical care.
- Provide patient education to support self-care and health maintenance.
- Conduct nursing office visits including but not limited to medication administration, vaccinations, blood draws, wound care, blood pressure management, asymptomatic STI testing, and allergy injections.
- Utilize standing orders to assist with lab and vaccine orders.
- Communicate with patients via phone and secure messaging, as appropriate.
- Perform telephone triage and assessment of students/learners who have urgent concerns and work with the Associate Director to determine appropriate and timely disposition.
- Follow up on reports from primary care after-hours on-call service; including follow-up with patients by telephone and/or secure message as appropriate.
- Participate in reviewing vaccine compliance for all students, with particular emphasis on the School of Medicine including Visiting Medical Students.
- Delegated responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Complete forms and paperwork
- Contact patients to obtain clarification on medication dosing and/or to discuss clinical problems that arise, discuss recommendations with providers, and ensure appropriate follow-up with patients
- Communicate with current patients who have canceled or missed appointments or been lost to follow-up
- Maintain patient records and reports according to standards required by the State, University, and SHWB.
- Provide support for quality improvement and patient satisfaction projects within the clinical practice.
- Participate in flu & other vaccine clinics in coordination with JHU and JH Occupational Health Services.
- Attends monthly meetings, and participates in committee work and educational programming.
- Maintain confidentiality according to all laws, regulations, licensure requirements, and SHWB policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

- Daily use of personal computer, telephone, fax, photocopy and scan machines, and a variety of medical equipment.
