Lonza Pharma & Biotech has an excellent opportunity for a Principal Scientist, R&D at their Bend, Oregon location. This role is responsible for managing technical and business aspects of projects.  Participates in research, development and transfer of drug delivery innovations within Lonza. Possesses the capability to design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and clearly communicate results in a multidisciplinary team environment. Applies knowledge of fundamental science to help provide innovative solutions for challenging problems related to drug delivery technologies. Assists in the creation of intellectual property and achievement of strategic deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

• Apply expert science and engineering fundamentals to solve problems.

• Collaboratively develop and prioritize new technologies or business services aligned with overall business unit strategy.

• Lead governance of R&D projects through stage gate process.

• Perform searches and summaries of scientific and patent literature.

• Present key technical and business results through written and oral communication both internally and externally.

• Act as a technical and professional mentor to less experienced colleagues.

• Possess fundamental knowledge on key Lonza technologies and associated manufacturing processes with the ability to successfully apply towards emerging problem statements.

• Work primarily as an individual contributor, while formally or informally leading colleagues on projects

Key Requirements:

• B.S./M.S. in a science or engineering discipline with at least 10 years of industry experience in pharmaceutical R&D or drug development, or Ph.D. with several years’ relevant industry experience.
