Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC)’s Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital [VTTH], in Tullahoma, TN, is seeking to hire a Lab Director, whom will have responsibility for managing the performance of laboratory procedures for all age groups from neonate through geriatric, according to established hospital and department policies and procedures. Unit Summary:
Vanderbilt Tullahoma - Harton Hospital (VTHH) Laboratory services all hospital in-patient units and the emergency department. The laboratory also provides laboratory testing for external clients, such as community providers. The Laboratory offers a range of anatomic and clinical laboratory services to meet the needs of the tertiary care facility. Anatomic Pathology services are provided by Community Pathology Laboratory and Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). VUMC serves as the primary reference laboratory for VTHH. The Laboratory occupies approximately 2,300 square feet and operates 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week to provide accurate, timely test results to support physicians in the assessment of patients. Pathologists are available 24-hours-a day, 7-days-a-week for consultation and/or interpretations of test results for laboratory testing performed on-site or referenced to an outside laboratory. VUMC provides advanced testing services and anatomic and clinical pathology expertise to support patient care at VTHH. The laboratory’s performance improvement efforts are focused on achieving excellence in service and quality, while also achieving greater efficiency.
The Laboratory is supported by an independent laboratory information system (LIS) with Cerner Millennium and Soft Bank components. LIS systems are interfaced to the EPIC electronic medical record for order entry and results reporting. The Laboratories collaborate with Health IT (software) and VUMC IT (hardware) departments to integrate laboratory functions and information into the VUMC enterprise electronically. The Laboratory is staffed, according to workload requirements, with approximately 20 total FTEs.
