Job Title: Dishwasher and Prep Cook
Department: Dietary Services
Reports To: Dietary Manager or Executive Chef
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt hourly
Position Summary
The Dishwasher and Prep Cook plays a vital role in ensuring the delivery of safe, nutritious, and high-quality meals to residents. This role supports the dietary team by maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment and assisting with food preparation tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Dishwashing and Cleaning:
- Operate dishwashing equipment to clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment.
- Monitor the cleanliness of the dishwashing machine, ensuring proper functioning and maintenance.
- Dispose of waste according to facility guidelines, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, floors, and storage areas to meet regulatory and facility standards.
- Ensure compliance with infection control policies, including proper handling of soiled and clean items.
Food Preparation Assistance:
- Assist in the preparation of ingredients, such as washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning food items.
- Measure and assemble ingredients for recipes under the supervision of the Dietary Manager or Cook.
- Assist in the preparation of snacks, beverages, and special dietary items as required.
- Ensure compliance with dietary guidelines, including special diets for residents with specific health needs.
Operational Support:
- Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies and notify the Dietary Manager when replenishment is needed.
- Assist with unloading and storing food deliveries, ensuring proper rotation of stock.
- Support cooks and other kitchen staff during meal service to maintain timely and efficient operations.
Resident-Focused Service:
- Interact with residents in a courteous and professional manner when delivering or clearing meal items.
- Maintain an understanding of residents' dietary needs and preferences to support meal preparation and service.
Work Environment
This position operates in a fast-paced kitchen environment within a long-term care facility. It requires adherence to strict safety and sanitation standards.

Requirements
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment, preferably in a long-term care or healthcare setting.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to operate and maintain dishwashing and kitchen equipment safely.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Team player with excellent communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching in a kitchen environment.
- Tolerance to temperature variations in hot and cold environments.
