The Data Science and Engineering team works closely with our product, customer success, marketing, and sales teams; we help them ask questions the right way — and then find the answers. Our data informs us of the impact we are having on the world, and the Data team is crucial to architecting and building our data infrastructure. We design and use data analysis tools that increase our data’s scalability, accuracy, and accessibility. We proactively inform our company's goals and direction with data so that our product can help more teams do great things. With more than 1 billion tasks and 50,000+ paying organizations, we have an incredibly rich data set for understanding how teams work together using Asana and how we can make them even more effective.
We are looking for an experienced data scientist to partner with a variety of cross-functional business teams (Strategy, Revenue, & Marketing) and R&D team. You will design and build a centralized forecasting capability to predict topline business metrics and help business & product leaders better understand the key drivers of Asana’s core metrics. In this role, you will also be the voice of data in strategic discussions with business leadership that are relevant to your area.
What you'll achieve
- Create an org-wide forecasting capability that incorporates inputs from R&D, marketing, and sales to predict topline business performance.
- Partner closely with business stakeholders from Strategy, Revenue, and Marketing, as well as other analytics teams, on analyses that help understand key drivers of business performance across our GTM motions and product roadmap.
- Lead cross-functional data initiatives that help drive critical business decisions and inform long-term company level strategy.
About you
- Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of experience in applying data science techniques to drive decision-making or develop technical applications.
- Fluency in at least one modern language useful for statistics and/or data processing (e.g. Python, R, Scala) and proficiency with relational data modeling and SQL
- Deep expertise in statistical methods including experimental design, regression, causal inference with observational data, time series modeling.
- Familiarity with one or more of the machine learning approaches in classification, ranking, or clustering.
- Strong ability in translating ambiguous requests into concrete data science work and designing methodological approaches to meet business requirements.
- Strong ability in managing stakeholders, leading a project end-to-end, communicating complex concepts to diverse audiences, and crafting compelling stories.
- Familiarity with SaaS business model and go-to-market motions.
- Familiarity with forecasting methodologies.
- Experience in writing production-quality code in Python/Scala and productionizing machine learning applications with tools such as Git, Sagemaker, Airflow.
- Graduate degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Economics, Marketing Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

To ensure pay is fair and not impacted by biases, we're committed to looking at market value which is why we check ourselves and conduct a yearly pay equity audit.
For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $202,000 - $316,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.
In addition to base salary, your compensation package may include additional components such as equity, sales incentive pay (for most sales roles), and benefits.
