About the role

Hutchinson Health has an exciting opportunity for a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to work in the Urgent Care at Hutchinson Health Clinic.  This position will work on an as needed basis to fill in and cover vacations, staff training and workload fluctuations.  Urgent Care hours are weekdays 8am-5pm and weekends 9am-3pm.  Successful candidate will provide medical care to patients who arrive in Urgent Care.  This medical care includes patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment and promoting wellness and health education. 

A degree from a recognized school of Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner medical program, with certification required.   

Job Summary:

The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner provides personal, direct care to patients with acute and/or chronic illnesses. The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner assesses individuals using history, physical exam and appropriate diagnostic tests/x-rays. He/she formulates, implements and evaluates patient care management according to practice guidelines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Ensures the plan of care for the pediatric, adult and geriatric patient populations reflect:
  2. An understanding and ability to obtain information/perform assessment and react effectively to the unique needs of these patients.
  3. Assessment information that reflects physical, psychosocial, developmental and cognitive data specific to the age of the patient; and an understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients.
  4. Provides urgent and acute care efficiently and accurately
  5. Provides ongoing patient education and counseling
  6. Treats acute care/chronic problems efficiently and accurately resulting in patient satisfaction
  7. Provides timely chart documentation that is accurate and thorough.
  8. Orders labs, x-rays, and diagnostic tests to facilitate the correct diagnosis in a cost efficient manner.
  9. Determines when a patient’s problem is serious enough to transfer patient to a higher level of care.
  10. Participates in community health programs which promote wellness and health education
  11. Utilizes appropriate sourcing of supervising physician for clinical decision making support.
  12. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills: (indicate preferred or required)

  1. Experience in the ongoing care of adults and children in the setting of a rural clinic is desirable
  2. Sound knowledge of diagnosis, evaluation, and management of acute and chronic family medicine. This should include, in part, history taking, physical examination, appropriate use of ancillary lab and radiology testing, and basic treatment plans. Use of consultation with physicians and allied health staff is critical.
