Job Description
Opportunity at a GlanceThe MSW Assistant Professor is responsible for teaching graduate-level social work courses for Chamberlain College of Health Professions. This position provides the educational focus of teaching (classroom, applied practice experience/fieldwork, and other learning environments) as well as committee work. Service to the College, community, healthcare system, social work profession, and scholarly activities are integral aspects of this position. The Assistant Professor is expected to meet specified faculty outcomes each year.
Responsibilities
- Evidence-Based Teaching/ Learning and Master Instruction
- Takes responsibility for program outcomes by implementing the College’s philosophy, curriculum and course objectives through the online and immersion classroom, applied practice experience (fieldwork) assignments, and service to the College, community, healthcare system and profession.
- Develops curricular/teaching innovations in the annual preparation and revision of all assigned course(s).
- Develops assignments consistent with students’ knowledge base, skill competency and learning needs.
- Assumes responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching loads.
- Assists with the monitoring of fieldwork agencies for appropriateness for student applied practice experiences and ability to meet course outcomes.
- Provides indirect supervision and evaluation of students in the applied practice experience (fieldwork) setting.
- In cooperation with field agencies and college departments, provides oversight for applied practice experience preceptors/mentors for student fieldwork experiences and coordinates and evaluates those preceptors/mentors.
- Provides documented feedback to students on level of performance based on course outcomes.
- Provides student remediation within assigned courses.
- Communicates up-to-date information about fieldwork agency policies, procedures, and expectations.

- Serves as a positive professional role model for students, assisting in their professional/social development.
- Serves as an informal leader, mentor, and role model for other faculty and staff in the areas of customer service, collaboration, scholarship, communication, excellence and general professionalism.

- Contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of the programs and the philosophy of the College.
- Participates in academic advisement and counseling for an assigned group of students while participating in assessment of potential and real counseling concerns for all students with whom the faculty come into contact.
- Contributes to the development and evaluation of student admission, progression, retention and graduation policies within the College.
- Provides opportunities for student and graduate evaluation of curriculum and teaching and program effectiveness.
- Provides recommendations to the program coordinator regarding budget needs for the college.
