Job Summary
The Small Parts Supervisor is responsible for leading the daily operations, stabilization, and long-term development of the Small Parts Department. The Supervisor works closely with the Director of Production to improve workflow, quality, and efficiency while supporting the department’s transition from batch-based production to one-piece flow using Lean Manufacturing principles. The Small Parts Department produces high-volume wearable components and assemblies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Lead, supervise, and develop employees within the Small Parts Department
- Set clear expectations and hold team members accountable to safety, quality, and productivity standards
- Recruit, hire, train, and develop new team members
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and formal performance evaluations
- Serve as a leader on the floor during production activities
- Partner closely with the Director of Production to stabilize, improve, and scale the department
Operations & Execution
- Oversee daily department workflow to meet customer demand and production schedules
- Ensure materials are prepped, verified, produced, and quality checked
- Schedule and assign work to support flow-based manufacturing
- Ensure same-day order fulfillment, with customer service as a priority
- Maintain department organization, cleanliness, and safety standards
- Inspect assembly procedures for quality, accuracy, and efficiency
Process Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
- Support continuous improvement efforts focused on improving flow, reducing waste, and increasing throughput
- Develop, document, and maintain standard work instructions
- Implement and sustain 5S and visual management practices
- Track and improve key department performance metrics
Inventory, BOM & Systems Ownership
- Own the accuracy of BOM’s and inventory consumption to minimize the need for inventory adjustments
- Create, vet, verify, and release production orders (RPOs), ensuring correct BOM structure and consumption
- Generate, vet, and submit suggested purchase requisitions to support production demands
- Review outstanding purchase orders and communicate needs to Purchasing
- Evaluate costs of assemblies, kits, and packaged products
- Utilize ERP systems, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, to support production planning, inventory accuracy, and reporting
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills in a manufacturing or assembly environment
- Good organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize work and delegate effectively
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to read shop drawings
