Position: Van Driver
Department: Transportation
Reports to: Transportation Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly) � Service Employees International Union Local 32 BJ District 1201
Schedule: Part Time, 10 Months
Starting Hourly Rate: $21.89
MISSION STATEMENT:

SUMMARY:
Providing safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the District's curricular and extracurricular programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
(Other appropriate duties may be assigned.)
- Obeys all traffic laws, specifically those pertaining to school buses.
- Observes all mandatory safety regulations for buses including but not limited to child safety equipment (i.e. car seats booster seats, safety vests).
- Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
- Reports disciplinary issues and concerns to the proper authority.
- Keeps assigned van clean.
- Checks van before each operation for mechanical defects.
- Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Discharges students only at authorized stops.
- Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
- Transports only authorized students.
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
- Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the van.
- Ability to safely evacuate all passengers in an emergency vehicular situation including but not limited to passengers ranging from ages three to twenty-one, in adherence with the procedures outlined in the Transportation Employee Handbook.
- Other associated duties and responsibilities as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- High School diploma; preference given to those having a minimum of two years college.
- Previous experience with children preferred.
- Valid current Pennsylvania state driver's license must be maintained at all times.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group
situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with the ability to safely evacuate all passengers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
