Job Summary

The Field Accounting Department is responsible for working disconnects for non-payment, AROP (Auto Read Order Process) work, stopped meter billing, non-utility collections, handling customer billing complaints, assisting with North Carolina Utility Commission (NCUC) complaints, and assisting other departments with maintenance work and warehousing responsibilities.

 

This supervisory position:   
•    Ensures the availability of staff to respond to all statewide Field Accounting activities, including applicable operational/compliance/customer and emergency issues in a timely and accurate manner ensuring adherence to safety, departmental policy and procedures, and regulatory compliance. 
•    Supervises, completes human resources activities, leads daily activities, and manages performance of a diverse team of approximately 20 employees across the North Carolina service territory.
•    Appraises and resolves unusual or difficult customer or functional inquiries by working with the customer or business unit partners. 
•    Serves as the business liaison with key internal stakeholders to ensure overall objectives are successfully met.
•    Completes daily disconnects for natural gas customers that do not pay within North Carolina Utility Commission (NCUC) regulations.
•    Completes daily meter reads for customers beginning and ending natural gas service, but not requiring relight.
•    Completes collection activities for delinquent accounts for regulated natural gas service, as well as, products and services provided through non-regulated sales.
•    Coordinates labor assistance for Operations and Warehousing functions on non-peak days
•    Prepares and leads regular employee meetings (face-to-face and Microsoft Teams) including business review, safety, and environmental updates.
•    Develops, reviews, and monitors budget goals and employee productivity. 


This position may report to the North Durham Operations Center in Durham, North Carolina OR the Chapel Hill Operations Center in Chapel Hill North Carolina OR the Apex Operations Center in Apex, North Carolina.  

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

•    7+ years of directly related experience plus High School diploma or equivalent;
     OR 5+ years directly related experience plus Associate's degree;
     OR 3+ years of directly related experience plus Bachelor's degree.
•    Strong, demonstrated leadership traits including the ability to effectively manage conflict and model the Company’s values and Code of Ethics and Business Conduct; and share ideas and expertise to accomplish goals.
•    Experience maintaining a sustained focus on work quality and safety. 
•    Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with internal and external customers in a competent and professional manner.
•    Ability to train, coach and mentor a team of diverse employees and foster an environment of teamwork and collaboration.
•    Demonstrated experience handling constantly changing and emerging priorities and planning/scheduling/delegating/prioritizing work.
•    Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures.
•    Effective time management and problem-solving skills are critical. 
•    Ability to understand federal and state codes and standards related natural gas distribution systems/utility operations.
