PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The hiring range for this position is $22.70 - $28.38/hourly

OVERVIEW OF JOB
The Water Utility Damage Prevention Technician assists with monitoring oversight for the Aurora Water Raw Water Infrastructure Systems. This is a key support role in the defense of the City of Aurora’s raw water transmission systems, ensuring that projects affecting critical infrastructure are completed in accordance with city standards, safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Infrastructure Defense: Act as a technician in the Watch & Protect program, conducting driving inspections and "standby" observations to prevent unauthorized or unsafe work on the city’s raw water systems.
Compliance & Enforcement: Verify that all contractors have valid license agreements and locates on-site before breaking ground. Authorized to halt work when safety requirements or permit conditions are not met.
Construction Oversight: Monitor in-progress utility crossing projects, ensuring every phase complies with city codes, project plans, and safety regulations.
Field Collaboration: Participate in site walk-throughs with contractors and provide real-time updates to supervisors to resolve issues before they escalate.
Accurate Reporting: Maintain meticulous logs and digital files to track inspections, communication with other city departments, and project milestones.
