Position Summary
Odyssey Systems has an exciting new opportunity for a Software Engineer, Journeyman, supporting the KC-46 Program Office located at Wright Patterson AFB, OH.
Responsibilities
- Apply engineering and scientific principles in support of DoD and Air Force weapon system performance, sustainability, and modernization.
- Interpret and implement MIL-HDBK-516C Airworthiness Certification Criteria for aircraft systems and subsystems.
- Support airworthiness processes, including System Integrity Programs (e.g., MECSIP), CSI list maintenance, and certification tracking.
- Translate user needs into system and software requirements for design, development, testing, and deployment.
- Conduct technical analyses, trade studies, and system concept development to support acquisition and lifecycle decisions.
- Provide rapid response engineering support for critical sustainment and supportability issues.
- Perform system safety engineering tasks, including mishap risk assessments and evaluation of contractor safety documentation.
- Develop and review technical documentation such as ICDs, CDDs, CONOPS, SEPs, TEMPs, and acquisition strategies.
- Participate in design reviews, milestone planning, and technical meetings (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, TIM).
- Analyze and resolve equipment and software deficiencies, support integration and testing of corrective solutions.
- Support configuration, data, and risk management processes and contribute to environmental and technical assessments.
- Apply software engineering expertise across the full lifecycle, including assurance practices and toolsets (e.g., static code analysis).
- Support the development and maintenance of Software Development Strategies and Software Development Plans (SDPs).
- Apply knowledge of systems acquisition, architecture, and integration at both system and subsystem levels.
- Leverage understanding of aeronautical and avionics systems to support airborne and ground-based software engineering tasks.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications
Citizenship: Must be a US citizen
Clearance: Secret
Education/Years of Experience:
- BA/BS degree, and ten (10) years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline being performed, three (3) of which must be in the DoD
- OR, ten (10) years of project assistance, administrative assistance or similar experience in the public, military, non-profit or private sectors
- OR, fifteen (15) years of directly related experience with proper certifications as described in the Functionally Aligned Job Descriptions, five (5) of which must be in the DoD.
- Undergraduate degree with a major in engineering from a college or university with an Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited engineering program(s)
Additional Information:
- Tanker or transport aircraft aircrew or ground operations experience
- Recognized as an expert in Logistics
- Depot maintenance or system sustainment management experience at a military aircraft sustainment center/logistics complex
- At least three years as a weapon system logistics manager or systems engineer for an ACAT Level I or II program, and;
- Experience with commercial derivative aircraft logistics processes, provisioning, and interactive electronic technical manuals.
Technical Skills
Embedded Systems Development: Design, develop, and test mission-critical software for avionics and refueling systems using real-time operating systems (RTOS) and safety-critical coding standards (e.g., DO-178C).
Airworthiness & Certification Compliance: Ensure software meets MIL-STD and FAA airworthiness requirements, including support for software audits, verification, and validation processes.
Systems Integration & Testing: Collaborate with systems and hardware engineers to integrate software with aircraft subsystems; conduct lab and flight test support, including troubleshooting and anomaly resolution.
Cybersecurity & Mission Assurance: Implement secure coding practices and support Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance to protect mission systems from cyber threats.
Interpersonal Skills
Effective Communication: Clearly convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including engineers, program managers, and end users.
