Engineering Manager (PV Design)

Due to growth CS Energy is seeking an Engineering Manager. The Engineering Manager is a pivotal role and will be responsible for technical oversight and management of design for all solar and energy storage projects. The Engineering Manager will work in conjunction and coordinate with Business Development, Procurement, Project Development, Presales, and Operations Teams to deliver the best product to our clients. They will review scopes of work, negotiate and manage design firms, and provide support to the teams on technical issues. Finally, the Engineering Manager will lead, mentor, and develop the team; will work with Director to champion quality, agility and precision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Identify project requirements based on the utility interconnect agreements, contractual agreements, regulatory requirements, code requirements, etc. and ensure compliance of the disciplines.
• Leading and managing the electrical design of renewable energy projects (primarily solar PV projects) from preliminary design through IFC in accordance with the pre-defined budgets, deadlines and quality requirements.
• Provide value engineering solutions during development, proposal, pre-construction and construction phases
• Assist and review project energy models based on contract requirements and project as-builts.
• Assist and review single-line and three-line diagrams with required electrical details for solar PV systems in accordance with NEC, IEEE, NESC, utility interconnection tariffs and requirements, and local AHJ as necessary
• Assist in calculations and review for required studies and reports (lighting protection, AC/DC load studies, reactive power analysis, etc.)
• Actively work with electrical engineering consultants and third-party engineering firms for calculations, drawing packages and professional stamps
• Coordinate electrical integration and interconnection of energy storage systems
• Coordinate with civil and structural engineering firms to obtain detailed civil and structural design packages from third party vendors/firms that meet all contractual and permitting requirements
• Coordinate with Supply Chain and Quality teams to create specifications for CS Energy provided equipment, DAS/SCADA designs for solar and energy storage projects.
• Lead internal and external engineering review meetings, support operations team on client meetings
• Develop technical specifications and scopes of work for engineering firms and contractors
• Perform quality control/quality assurance checks, including checking drawings and specifications prior to release
• Support the project interconnection approval process as the primary point of contact with the interconnecting utilities from the application process through final design approval
• Attend meetings with clients, State and local permitting authorities, subcontractors, and vendors regarding engineering and technical issues related to the solar and energy storage project
• Mentor and train team members on project design, interconnection, and energy modelling
• Track project engineering deliverables schedules and coordinate with the internal and external team to ensure expectations are set correctly and design deadlines are met
• Leverage understanding of construction logistics, site preparation, material and labor costs to optimize designs
• On an ongoing basis, provide support to commissioning and O&M
• Safeguard the organization’s intellectual property, proprietary designs, templates, and engineering work
• Travel to project sites when required
• Review photovoltaic drawings as required and provide guidance on any potential issues
• Assist in system optimization, system synchronization, and performance testing
• Provide leadership and guidance to the team and throughout the organization
• Manage, assign, and prioritize tasks for the team.
• Drives and achieves results by setting the pace necessary for success and ensures the team and/or crews keep that pace by instilling a high sense of urgency
• Undertake challenging assignments that include investigating, troubleshooting, and solving a wide variety of electrical engineering problems
• Execute on established goals, objectives, performance metrics, and initiatives to support corporate objectives
