About the role
The Intermediate Accountant will be a key contributor throughout the month-end close process and financial statement preparation. The individual will assist with the preparation of journal entries, validate system feeds within the ledger, process and reconcile balance sheet activity, and also assist with state withholding taxes and various other state reporting.
What you'll do
- Prepares and analyzes journal entries, reconciliations, and reports while ensuring accuracy in financial transactions and compliance with internal controls
- Reconciles multiple accounts from one or more accounting-based systems at appropriate timeframes (daily, monthly, and annually)
- Assists in the preparation of financial statements
- Monitors KPI reporting and assists with investigation of variances
- Assists with state withholding tax and various state reporting
- Proactively identifies unique problems, such as reconciliation/posting issues, and seeks help to resolve, if necessary
- Explains how and why transactions were processed and reported
- Researches and gathers appropriate information for others or to recommend a solution to an issue
- Handles and resolves complex or unique questions, problems, or assignments, exercising independent judgment and initiative on occasion
- Looks for and understands what issues should be brought to the attention of a higher authority
- Participates in and supports ad hoc projects as needed
- Creates and documents procedures
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent education/experience
- One to two years of insurance background desired
- Intermediate Excel knowledge
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Detail oriented, precise attention to detail
- Desire to understand why a process is being completed
- Strong oral communication skills
- Organizational skills and time management
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Team player; collaborative style; partners effectively and with ease
- Highly accountable with a strong work ethic; committed to superior quality and service
- Able to handle multiple and changing priorities
