About the role

Job Description:

An Acute Patient Access Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day operations of the Revenue Service Center and Hospital departments. This role is responsible for implementing and enforcing comprehensive quality management programs that comply with standard operating procedures and the regulations of certifying, licensing, and accrediting agencies.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee day-to-day functions of the assigned patient access department.
  • Collaborate with partnering leadership teams to evaluate service needs and volumes for staffing.
  • Assign daily work schedules and approve timecards.
  • Provide support for estimates, financial assistance, payment plans, and charity care.
  • Communicate process and protocol to staff. Develop, implement and teach new procedures and practices. Direct and coordinate training of new employees.
  • Use knowledge of insurance plans and contractual arrangements affecting payments, to research incomplete, incorrect or outstanding claims and/or patient issues. Investigate and resolve billing/insurance/claims submission, disputes or complaints to resolution, as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring the adherence to Federal and state regulations, including the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA).
  • Provide patients with directions, maps, and parking information.
  • Coordinate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure smooth patient flow, quality care, and downtime procedures.
  • Ensure obtaining prior authorizations, referrals, estimates, and financial clearance.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.  Associate’s level degree or higher is preferred.  Degree must be obtained from an accredited institution.  Education is verified.
  • Demonstrated intermediate experience in a Patient Access Role.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of regulatory requirements, insurance protocols, and hospital policies to safeguard patient rights and ensure compliance.
  • Demonstrates ability to resolve Caregiver and Patient/Family complaints
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Electronic Health record, Epic preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for leaders to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require the leader to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
  • May have the same physical requirements as those of patient access jobs, when the leader takes shifts.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
