About the role

<h2><span><b><b><b><b><b><b><b>Introduction</b></b></b></b></b></b></b></span></h2><p>Are you a master student in Computer Science, Embedded Systems, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field looking for a graduation internship? Do you have a good understanding of C++ and multi-core processing? Then this internship might be interesting for you!</p><p></p><h2><span><b><b><b><b><b><b><b><b><b>Background information</b></b></b></b></b></b></b></b></b></span></h2><p>Our department created (and maintains/improves) one of the many complex algorithmic models required to run the ASML (EUV) machines. Our model performs a set of heavy computational operations in real-time on a tight timing budget.<br/>In order to keep improving the model, and to add more functionality (and therefore complexity), we need to understand the characteristics of the timing performance.</p><p></p><h2><span><b><b><b><b><b><b><b><b><b>Your assignment</b></b> </b></b></b></b></b></b></b></span></h2><p>As an end-result we would like to have an overview of the timing performance of the model in its current state, complemented with insights on impacts of optimization techniques (think of AVX, core pinning, multi-threading, using MKL/BLAS/etc. different algorithmic implementations, HW acceleration, etc.). Next to this we would like to also know the impact of the upcoming features we will implement in the model.</p><p><span>Lastly, we would like to have a set of <span>guidelines/rules-of-thumb</span> to follow in the model to maintain/gain optimal timing performance (without disregarding software design/architecture best-practices).</span></p><p><span>This will be achieved by profiling the model, running experiments, and finally analyzing the results.</span></p><p></p><h2><span><b><b><b><b><b><b><b><b><b>Your Profile</b></b></b></b></b></b></b></b></b></span></h2><p>To be a perfect match for this internship, you:</p><ul><li><p>Are a master student in Computer Science, Embedded Systems, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field.</p></li><li><p>Have a good understanding of C++ and knowledge of profiling (e.g. Intel VTune).</p></li><li><p>Have knowledge of multi-core processing and vector instructions (e.g. Intel AVX).</p></li><li><p>Are a great planner and organizer with good presenting skills. </p></li><li><p><span>Have strong communication skills and are fluent in English both verbally and in writing. </span></p></li></ul><p></p><p>​This is a master graduation internship with a duration of a 6 to 9 months, for 4-5 days a week, starting as soon as possible.</p><p></p><p>Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at an educational institution for the entire duration of the internship.</p><p></p><h2>Leading with purpose</h2><p>At ASML, we’ve been making giant leaps in microchip manufacturing technology since 1984, with more than 42.000 employees and over 60 locations globally.
