Job Overview

The Senior Investigator – Colleague Advisory provides subject matter expertise in complex investigations and emergency protocols across the enterprise. They advise and guide People Leaders at all levels in addressing alleged misconduct and workplace safety concerns. The Senior Investigator independently leads high-stakes investigations that require sound judgment and the ability to conduct interviews with senior leadership. This role may be based in any Macy’s Inc. facility that meets the necessary technology requirements.

What You Will Do

  • Provide guidance and recommended solutions to People Leaders, HR Business Partners (HRBPs), and Asset Protection (AP) Leaders on potential workplace violence cases.
  • Advise People Leaders on alcohol and drug-free workplace cases to ensure consistent application and compliance with company policy.
  • Conduct investigations into sexual harassment and other complex matters, as assigned by the Director, Colleague Advisory.
  • Lead Presidential Letter investigations, which involve correspondence addressed to Macy’s or Bloomingdale’s Strategy Team Leaders.
  • Serve as a case consultant for Colleague Support Advisors, offering expertise on complex or sensitive matters.
  • Coach People Leaders to identify the best course of action, with an emphasis on developing sound employee relations and effective decision-making skills.
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships within and outside of Colleague Relations.
  • Communicate effectively with business leaders at all levels to:
    • Ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures
    • Navigate challenging situations using effective conflict resolution strategies
  • Collaborate with stakeholders who may have differing viewpoints while maintaining confidentiality around complex and highly sensitive matters; partner with the Law Department as needed.
  • Operate independently to influence decisions by providing sound, consistent, and objective guidance across the organization.
  • Recommend policy changes or enhancements based on case experience, and identify opportunities to improve internal processes.
  • Analyze case data to identify trends, root causes, and training needs; collaborate on recommendations for procedural or policy changes.
  • Participate in technology enhancements and process improvement initiatives, including Salesforce testing.
  • Manage timely execution of performance and conduct-related terminations and respond to associated unemployment claims.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities. 
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

Skills You Will Need

Investigative Expertise: Leads complex, high-stakes investigations with independence, sound judgment, and the ability to engage senior leaders with confidence and professionalism.

Employee Relations Acumen: Provides expert guidance on workplace misconduct, safety, and compliance issues, ensuring consistency with company policy and a focus on fair outcomes.

Conflict Resolution: Navigates sensitive, high-impact situations with objectivity and skill, applying proven conflict resolution techniques to guide stakeholders toward resolution.

Coaching & Advising: Coaches People Leaders and Colleague Support Advisors to strengthen their employee relations and decision-making capabilities.

Analytical Thinking: Synthesizes complex case details, identifies patterns and root causes, and recommends process and policy improvements based on trends.

Communication Skills: Delivers clear, concise, and impactful communication at all levels of the organization, including senior executives, while maintaining confidential
