Become one of our 34 International Trainees at Vattenfall. Each of the trainee positions is unique, linked to a department within a specific business area and a working location. This means that each position has its own specific responsibilities, challenges and matching profile.
Next to your personal development in this unique position you will be enjoying one year of all we have to offer. Your trainee year will be filled with meetups with your international trainee team with likeminded individuals. You will be meeting up virtually to work on assignments and live during four seminar weeks where you will be visiting our power plants and growing your superpowers with a variety of trainings.
Your role as a Trainee - Project Manager Associate
Business Area Heat develops, operates, maintains and optimizes the full value chain of heating and cooling networks and efficient heat and energy production to serve customers and society with reliable heat and electricity in Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and Sweden. We aim to grow by delighting our customers and being a preferred partner to cities and other stakeholders. We strive to provide efficient, climate-friendly solutions to the energy transition. While doing this we will focus on healthy cash flows, an excellent safety record and high reliability of production and supply.
Within the Business Area Heat, the department Heat Projects is responsible for structuring and realizing the greatest value creating solutions for BA Heat and Vattenfall. The team ensures that various project portfolios, whether new builds or refurbishment projects are developed and realized. Staffing projects with the right people for the development and maintenance of competence pools make the work in Heat Projects quite dynamic.
Your daily activities
You will support the Project Manager in the development and execution of the project(s) with the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Assist in setting up and managing the project team(s) and plan(s) to meet the project objectives (e.g. Safety, Budget, Scheduling);
- Manage specific sub-projects and processes within the project(s), including (internal) communication thereto;
- You will prepare and lead (parts of) project team meetings e.g. concerning your sub-projects and processes;
- Assist in preparing for steering group meetings as well as senior management tollgate decision making processes by e.g. drafting relevant presentation material;
- You will work to build relationships and knowledge to be able to anticipate developments early and adapt to changes quickly;
- You will work in accordance with Vattenfall’s Purpose, Principles and project guidelines and execute work safely, in time and within budget.

As a Trainee - Project Manager Associate, you recognize yourself in the following:
- Master’s degree in a relevant technical or economic field of study;
- Knowledge of, first experience in or affinity towards project management (project development and/or project execution);
- Knowledge about the following topics can be relevant to the position (in no particular order):
- Plant design/engineering;
- Environmental impact studies/assessments;
- Permitting processes and procedures;
- Scheduling and schedule management;
- Risk and opportunity management;
- Team dynamics;
- Project valuation/economics, finance and cost control;
