The Role:

S&P Global Commodity Insights is seeking an intern to work within its Market Development & Engagement team. The intern will learn about market reporting and price formation processes in addition to working on data projects – including those where artificial intelligence can be incorporated - and compiling metrics to help measure the impact of market engagement. In this role, the intern will gain exposure across oil, natural gas, power, chemicals, shipping, metals, LNG, agriculture, and/or energy transition markets.

Location: Houston, TX (hybrid; flexibility for some remote work)

The Team:

Our Market Development & Engagement team is global and comprised of the Strategic Engagement & Intelligence Group, Price Group, Market Integrity & Review and Asia Content Leadership teams. The team sits within the Commodity Insights’ Market Reporting and Trading Solutions business line and collaborates continuously with Pricing Teams, News & Market Insight, Analytics and Commercial groups to ensure opportunities and insights flow across the organization and between Commodity Insights and external stakeholders.

  • Strategic Engagement & Intelligence Group (SEIG): Lead Market Engagement, Strategy, Execution and Education Across Global Commodity Markets.

  • Price Group (PG): Lead the evolution of price benchmarks and market reporting best practice.

  • Market Integrity & Review (MIR): Protect the integrity of the price assessment process through MOC participation reviews and performance tracking.

  • APAC Leadership: Expanding benchmarks and capabilities in across the APAC region with a focus on Singapore, China, India and Malaysia.

  • The Market Development & Engagement team leads development of relevant & reliable price benchmarks and commodity market engagement, with particular focus on methodology development, best practices, protecting the integrity of the price assessment process, engagement strategy and execution and market education.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete research and/or specials projects

  • Verify source information through appropriate channels

  • Learn and demonstrate understanding of Platts price assessment and Market-on-Close process
     

Qualifications:

  • Current student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in a related field graduating Winter 2025/ Summer 2026 

  • Curiosity of global markets and overall interconnected energy business ecosystem.

  • Office 365 application skills including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills, customer focus, passionate for building relationships
