About the role

Job Description:

Act as primary liaison among actors, stage management and shop staff during production run

Support actors with costumes and changes prior to, during, and after each performance; choreograph and facilitate quick changes (to include working with Costume Shop Manager and Stage Manager on securing quick change booths) 

Create and maintain comprehensive documentation and records (costume plots, piece lists, dressing lists, run sheets) for all costume items across the production 

Oversee wardrobe staff, in collaboration with Costume Shop Manager 

Efficiently tend to alteration needs and all wardrobe issues during rehearsals and performances as they arise 

Attend production meetings as needed to report on costume matters, in consultation with Costume Shop Manager 

Attend rehearsals as needed, in consultation with the Costume Shop Manager 

Coordinate and maintain all costume pieces across all stages of production (before, during and after) to uphold original designs and best possible condition, including laundering between performances and striking (sort and clean) at end of each production. Execute complete inventory of items at the end of the production, ensuring proper returns, storage, repairs, and replacements

Participate in drafting, draping, stitching, and construction, in consultation with Costume Shop Manager 

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience 

Experience as Wardrobe Supervisor/Manager or Lead Dresser required, or exceptional leadership as dresser demonstrated 
 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: 

Competency in all aspects of Wardrobe and Costume operations in theater, dance and opera

Safe operation of wardrobe tools and machines (some industrial) 

First Aid/CPR certified a plus 
 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 

Ability to work independently and as a supervisor 

Extremely detail oriented and paperwork-driven 

Ability to work well under pressure and with large groups of diverse personalities and priorities

Ability to remain flexible in a fast-paced environment 
 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Student crews 

Wardrobe-specific Overhire Production Technicians (Dressers, Wardrobe Assistants, Hair and Makeup Technicians) 
 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

Indoor environments, some with low light: costume shop, stages, backstage areas, dressing rooms 
 

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ETC: 

Driver’s license and clean driving record required 

Nights and weekends required 

Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds and climb ladders up to 12ft 

Seated and standing positions, crouching, kneeling
