This role is part of the Lunar Permanance business unit. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building the sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of spacecraft development engineers, you will lead the activities for the simulation and its components. You will be responsible for leading a team of modeling and simulation engineers to develop and deliver a multi-vehicle simulation containing multidisciplinary aerospace models. You will use platforms like desktop computers, software-in-the-loop simulations, hardware-in-the-loop labs, and on-vehicle simulations.  You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of Lunar Permanance. You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Permanance system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Responsibilities:  

  • Lead and develop an integrated multi-vehicle simulation in Matlab and Simulink to inform decisions and ensure requirements are met 

  • Lead the development of tools needed to design, build, deploy and support our unique and state-of-the art simulation infrastructure 

  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to ensure validation of models within the simulation 

  • Support the integrated product manager for updates to schedule, resources, cost, and risks 

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Minimum of BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science 

  • 8+ years of software development and debugging skills, particularly in C/C++, MATLAB, and Simulink  

  • Experience auto coding Simulink to C++ 

  • Strong fundamentals in rigid body dynamics, fluid mechanics, and 1st principles physics-based mathematical models 

  • Hands-on experience with testing frameworks and Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines such as Gitlab 

  • Experience with configuration management 

  • Experience developing software for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing 

  • Experience developing and maintaining simulation models including plant physics, sensors, and actuators 

  • Experience with verification and validation of aerospace simulations and models 

  • Strong debugging skills at the software/hardware boundary, and familiarity with software verification approaches 

  • Highly organized and capable of planning and guiding complex technical work 

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • MS or higher degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge in the development of planetary spacecraft GN&C simulations 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Rendezvous and Proximity Operations and Docking modeling and simulation 

  • Familiarity with DO-178, DO-160, and DO-254 or similar guidelines

Compensation range for on site CO applicants is$153,636—$215,090.40 USD
