Duke Global Health Institute

 

Position Summary

The Program Director for Curricular & Student Affairs (AD) works within the Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI) to define and drive education administration and budgetary efforts related to curricula and student affairs across all degree programs (undergraduate major/minor, master’s degree in global health, graduate certificate program in global health). The AD leads the development and implementation of comprehensive academic advising and student engagement, ensuring outstanding support of the educational mission. The AD applies deep knowledge of higher education, brings outstanding communication and organizational skills, and uses quantitative and qualitative data to inform decisions. The AD works diplomatically to collaboratively design, create, and provide oversight to ongoing assessment and improvement of advising; seeking budget efficiency; and promoting administrative effectiveness. The AD works in a highly collaborative manner to represent the student perspective with faculty director(s), teaching faculty and key stakeholders, and to represent DGHI across Duke University to other administrative and program offices.

 

As an interdisciplinary institute with ties to both the University and Medical School, DGHI academic programs and administrative systems are inherently complex. This position reports to the Director of Academic Programs and is an integral member of the Education unit, which include a Senior Associate Director for Partner and Program Development, a Senior Program Coordinator for Graduate Admissions, two Student Services Coordinators, an Education Marketing Coordinator, and a Staff Assistant.

 

Detailed Responsibilities

Program Administration and Planning (50%)

  • Work collaboratively with director of undergraduate studies (DUS), director of graduate studies (DGS), and Director of Academic Programs to design, plan, and provide leadership and creative problem-solving for the education programs and activities for degree-seeking students from orientation through commencement within the global health major and minor, the Master of Science in global health (MS-GH), the global health graduate certificate, and Duke Kunshan University (DKU) visiting students.
  • Oversee the creation of yearly operations calendar and ensure that staff continue to follow and update calendar for efficient department functioning.
  • Oversee office staffing days/times to create an equitable staffing environment and ensure that student services are uninterrupted throughout the year.
  • Identify opportunities for input and relationship-building within the context of undergraduate and MS-GH advisory committees. Co-facilitate committee meetings.
