About the role

The Institute for a Secure & Sustainable Environment (ISSE) in the Tickle College of Engineering located at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), invites applications for a full-time Business Manager.  Reporting to the Department Head, the Business Manager is responsible for managing all fiscal, human resources and data management responsibilities of ISSE

This role reports to the Department Head and will strategically plan and manage the oversight of the office and all of the fiscal and human resources needs for ISSE through assuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial matters of the department , interpretation of financial related and human resources policies, reviewing and approving HR-related transactions, the condition and appearance of the office space, training, leading, and managing personnel, and managing  the process of acquiring, reporting, record keeping and integrity of data as it relates to finances, human resources, ABET, scholarships, fellowships, research project productivity and statistical and cost analysis.

This position is responsible for all of the fiscal, human resources, and data management responsibilities of ISSE. They oversee a financial specialist role that provides fiscal and HR support for the centers under the umbrella of ISSE.

Required Qualifications

Education:  Associate’s degree in Business, Human Resources Management or a related field with 5 years of accounting and HR Management or business management experience as well as 2 years of supervising staff; or a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources Management or a related field  with 2 years of experience in accounting and HR management or business management and 2 years of supervising staff. 

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of standard accounting principles.
  • Professional integrity, including a thorough understanding of confidentiality.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills sufficient for effective interactions with a broad range of individuals, including faculty.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent writing, grammar, and proofreading skills.
  • Decisiveness and extensive problem-solving skills.
  • Competence with common office and database software.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to lead a small office team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management experience and or administration of federally funded projects including experience with project budgets, financial reporting and forecasting. 
  • Financial work history at a comprehensive research university
  • Knowledge of Oracle, Banner, recruiting software, and/or Cayuse

 

Work Location: Onsite - Knoxville, TN
