Job Description Summary

Under limited supervision, provide care, manage, and oversee health and safety of all research and teaching animals and animal facilities at New Bolton Center.
Position located in Kennett Square, PA. No public transportation available.

Job Description

Monitoring housing, daily care, vaccinations, worming and hoof care.  Order animal transport services.  Order consumable animal care supplies.  Monitor the movement of animals on campus and keep census records.  Responsible to ensure compliance with university and
Governmental policies.  Participate in regulatory agency inspections and follow up with compliance issues.

  • Oversee daily animal husbandry; Provide food, water, bedding, and clean trays as well and assist with vaccinations, worming, hoof care, shearing. Assist in preparation and/or administration of medication and/or drug compounds.
  • Participate in regulatory agency animal inspections and coordinate improvement issues.
  • Coordinate and ensure compliance with university and regulatory agency policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal care, record data and perform other record keeping functions as directed.
  • Interact with all levels of faculty, staff, external vendors.
  • Observe animal conditions and report abnormal health and unsafe or unusual conditions.
  • Perform daily animal census based on movements of animals to/from various housing locations.
  • Maintain/ repair, ULAR animal facilities and equipment.
  • Operate farm equipment.  Operate truck and trailer, front end loader/forklift.
  • Operate power washer to for cleaning purposes.
  • Have the knowledge to administer drugs or meds to animals.  
  • Perform animal transports, load and unload all animals.
