Nurse Director Med/Surg ICU
Position Summary: The Nurse Director supervises a team of nursing staff in their designated units and coordinates the safe and evidence-based delivery of care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Maintains a servant leadership approach. Post holder is a clinical resource to all nursing and multidisciplinary team members within their specialty.
Job Duties & Essential Functions:
- Supervising, mentoring, and guiding staff.
- Planning, developing, evaluating, and implementing comprehensive healthcare programs/initiatives.
- Ensuring all regulatory standards for patient care and unit environments are met and unit is in compliance.
- Ensuring a high standard of care for patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Training, educating, and scheduling nursing staff.
- Managing staff and supplies budgets effectively.
- Proactive daily rounding on staff and patients.
- Address patient issues and complaints timely.
- Provide clinical leadership for their team and consulting on complex patient treatment plans, as needed.
- Recruiting, retaining, and evaluating nursing staff.
- Encourage team engagement and collaboration.
- Carry a work cellphone and be available for serious clinical issues.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing require; minimum of B.S./B.A. degree in nursing. (Under New York State Education Law § 6905 (commonly referred to as the BSN in 10), all Registered Nurses licensed on or after June 18, 2020, must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree within 10 years of their initial RN licensure to maintain their ability to practice in the State of New York. Failure to meet this legal requirement may impact your employment status.)
- Current licensure to practice professional nursing in New York State.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 6 months of employment.
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in Critical Care Nursing (Intensive Care Unit and/or Med Surg/Telemetry).
- Two plus (2+) years of healthcare leadership experience.
- Clinical nursing practice in positions of successively greater responsibility.
- Knowledge of personnel administration and staff planning.
- Ability to work effectively with others and ability to manage personnel.
- Willingness to work closely and cooperatively as a member of an administrative team to ensure effective nursing practice.
