Occ Summary

Assume responsibilities for direct nursing care o f assigned patientsunder the supervision of a registered nurse or physic ian in patient carearea. Provides nursing services to patients and famil ies in accordancewith the scope ofthe LPN as defined by the North Carol ina Board ofNursing.


Work Performed

Provide and docum ent direct nursing care of assigned patients under thesupervision of a r egistered nurse or physician. Nursing care is guidedby the physician ord ers and the nursing plan of care. Patient responseto care is reported to a registered nurse for evaluation, interventionand modification of the plan of care. Assist other health care personnelin the delivery of patie nt care.Assist physicians and othernursing personnel in the performance ofvarious diagnostic procedures.Evaluate nursing care with emphasis on nursing procedures and patientresponses; assist in the delivery of nursi ng care and selection ofnursing priorities.Assist in the development and implementation of general policies andprocedures to provide for the emo tional and physical comfort and safetyof patients; participate in the fo rmulation of new policies.Participate in maintaining the environment of care including equipmentand other material resources.Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performanceimprovement opportu nities and assists in performance improvementactivities.Assist with cont rol of material resources and maintenance; assist inappraisal of effecti veness of material and equipment and report anyequipment malfunctionsto charge nurse.Participate in in-service education programs and other con ferenceswithin the service.Assist in the training of new employees.Perfo rm other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of scope of licens ed practical nurse, ability to delegate tonursing support staff.Consider able knowledge of the care and treatment of patients and specialprocedur es that apply to practical nursing.
