Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is seeking a Training Manager for Organizational Development. This role manages training unit operations and all aspects of comprehensive training programs dedicated to the development of supervisory/ managerial employees, organizational development, and strategic consultation, including participating in budget development, managing expenditures, and approving course schedules. Provides leadership, supervision, guidance, and support to training unit staff, overseeing the development and delivery of courses, unit and agency consultations, and leading assigned workgroups. This position is critical in the agency’s ability to comply with legal and regulatory requirements and support the hiring, development, and retention of a highly proficient workforce.

Job responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Ability to effectively supervise a professional team of multi-disciplinary employees in the areas of supervisory and leadership development, consultation and coaching, and project management.
  
• Demonstrated ability to lead others in the development and presentation of training, development of instructional plans and supporting materials, preparation of training aids, and to manage comprehensive training programs.
  
• Ability to travel within the state on an as needed basis to deliver training, facilitate group processes, monitor training, and/or provide consultation.
  
• Must be able to adhere to state travel reimbursement guidelines; adjust to the changing needs of the organization; interpret and apply agency and unit policies and procedures; to respectfully and professionally communicate verbally and in writing at all levels and provide exceptional customer service.

A valid driver’s license is required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Considerable knowledge of managing/leading others.
  
• Demonstrated skills in the delivery of training to an adult audience, utilizing a variety of training interventions, as well as curriculum design, needs assessment, and evaluation methods.
  
• Knowledge of budget development and state procurement processes.
  
• Considerable knowledge of organizational development, leadership development, strategic planning, and coaching.
  
• Demonstrated ability to organize and schedule own work and supervise, manage, and direct day-to-day activities of others.
  
• Progressively responsible experience developing and managing comprehensive training and development programs and supervising/ coaching training staff.
  
• Experience in training program design, development, and delivery.
  
• Experience delivering formal classroom training to an adult audience.
  

Additional Considerations

• Extensive experience in managing and/or supervising others, preferably in a training and/or organizational development environment.
• Certifications in organizational development, performance-based assessments, behavioral-based assessments, mediation, coaching, etc.
  
• Knowledge of state procedures and DJJ operations.
  
• Experience working in juvenile justice, corrections, jail, law enforcement, criminal justice academy, and/or other closely related field.
