Kitchen Porter is an entry-level position that is part of the Rise Academy team. Adequate nutrition may be an obstacle for some students; the Kitchen Porter supports Academy students by serving nutritious meals that fuel students’ learning. The Kitchen Porter reports to the Nutrition Coordinator and Director of Operations and supervises no staff.
Essential Duties
- Washing dishes, equipment and utensils: Kitchen porters ensure that equipment and dishes are cleaned, sanitized and ready to prepare and serve food.
- Sanitizing kitchen surfaces: They sanitize counters, stovetops and other places where food is prepared to meet health regulations.
- Inventory support: Porters help kitchen managers manage inventory by organizing food storage and telling them when items need to be ordered.
- Receiving deliveries: Porters receive and unpack all deliveries, ensuring all food and supplies are correctly placed.
- General cleaning: They sweep and mop the floors, wipe out trash cans, change garbage liners and clean and organize food storage.
- Equipment maintenance: Porter ensures that ovens, refrigerators, mixers and other cooking equipment are in working order.
- Basic food preparation: They help chefs and cooks prepare meals by washing, peeling and cutting ingredients.
- Setting up table and chairs as needed
- Must be able to lift up to 30lbs
- All other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to read and follow instructions
- Ability to adhere to set shifts and work schedule
- Faith in Jesus Christ, affirming the Apostles’ Creed as lived out in a faith community
