Summary

  • Serves as supervisor for the Broad River Complex Main Gate.
  • Instructs and monitors subordinates in secure and efficient daily operations.
  • Ensures that Broad River Main Gate is staffed properly and all agency policies and procedures are adhered to concerning employees, visitors and vendors.
  • Conducts training in all areas that incumbent has T4T or instructor certifications.
  • Maintain instructor certifications or re-certifies as required.
  • Provide security and advance tactical escorts/transports when necessary, or as directed by Director of Division of Security or designee.
  • Serves as on-call official on a rotating schedule, and responds to institutional emergencies/escapes when needed or as directed. 
  • Assists and supports the Division of Security with institutional security audits, special projects and assignments as necessary.
  • Serves as ESHO back up for Division of Security.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Examples of duties

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements: 

  • A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
  • Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
