Specialist: Patient Access (Full-time)

Position Overview:   

The Patient Access / Registration Specialist provides administrative support.  The Specialist will courteously greet all patients, in person and on the phone, in a timely manner.  The Specialist is responsible for the accurate and efficient entering of patient information into the Electronic Health Record through the Registration Conversation.  The Specialist will enter, update, and/or verify patient demographics, insurance and co-payments for every encounter. The employee is responsible for verifying insurance eligibility.  The Specialist is also responsible for collecting and posting insurance co-payments and patient payments.   

The Specialist, if assigned to the Emergency Department, must work in conjunction with the ED team in order to expedite patient care to improve patient outcomes.  When assigned to the ED, the Patient Access / Registration Specialist receives an additional $1.00 / hour for premium pay.

• Base Compensation Range: $18.00 - $22.38 hourly, based on years of relevant experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader. 
• Shift Differential Pay: 
  • Cross-Training Differential: Patient Access Registration staff who are trained and regularly scheduled for shifts and work in the ED receive a Cross-Training Differential of an additional $1.00 per hour.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years experience in Customer Service is strongly desired but not required.

Electronic health record (especially, Cerner) experience is strongly desired but not required.

Prior experience in a healthcare setting is desired but not required.

Special Skills, Licenses or Certifications:

Current AHA BLS (Heart Saver) certification is required.

Basic computer knowledge, proficient typing skills (Microsoft Office, Teams) is required.

Must have attention to detail to ensure accuracy of patient records and financial transactions.
