A Little About Us

The Corporate Accounting team partners across Finance, HR, FP&A, Legal, Procurement, and business operations to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and efficient accounting processes across Yahoo's global business. The team plays a critical role in the monthly and quarterly close while continuously improving how accounting work gets done through automation, scalable processes, and modern financial systems.

Position Overview

Yahoo is seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Director of Corporate Accounting to lead key areas of our global corporate accounting organization, with primary responsibility for personnel accounting, including payroll, benefits, long-term incentives, restructuring, and capitalized labor.

In this role, you'll lead a team of three accounting professionals responsible for critical close activities while partnering closely with stakeholders across Finance, HR, Legal, Procurement, FP&A, and Finance Systems. You'll combine strong technical accounting expertise with operational leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain a strong control environment, and continuously improve accounting processes through automation, Oracle Financials, and thoughtful adoption of AI.

What You'll Do

  • Lead accounting and close activities for personnel accounting, including payroll, benefits, long-term incentives, restructuring, and capitalized labor.

  • Oversee the annual capitalized labor submission process, ensuring large-volume, high-value project costs are accurately recorded.

  • Review internally developed software projects to determine capitalization eligibility and ensure compliance with accounting policies.

  • Establish and maintain controls that support the timely, accurate, and complete accounting and reporting of capitalized labor.

  • Facilitate quarterly Capital Labor Committee meetings and executive reviews of capitalization requests.

  • Apply technical accounting guidance to determine the appropriate accounting treatment for complex transactions.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of three accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities in compliance with U.S. GAAP, SOX, and internal accounting policies.

  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analyses, and supporting documentation.

  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, HR, Legal, Procurement, Finance Systems, and business stakeholders to support forecasting, resolve accounting matters, and improve financial processes.

  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to support audit requests, walkthroughs, and control documentation.

  • Drive process optimization by leveraging Oracle Financials, automation, and AI to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across accounting workflows.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline manual processes, strengthen reconciliations, and enhance financial reporting through system enhancements and emerging technologies, including tools such as Gemini, Copilot, and Claude.

  • Support broader controllership initiatives and special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Active CPA license required.

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership experience within a large public company or similarly complex organization.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SOX compliance, and corporate accounting operations.

  • Experience with payroll, benefits, accrual accounting, operating expense accounting, and capitalized labor.

  • Experience with fixed assets related to capitalized labor.

  • Experience working with Oracle Financials or a comparable enterprise ERP. Oracle Financials experience is strongly preferred.
