Job Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant performs clinical and administrative duties that support the healthcare team in its efforts to operate efficiently and effectively. In the clinical role, the Certified Medical Assistant works with the medical team involved in evaluating and treating patients. In the administrative aspect of the role, the Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for maintaining patient records, completing insurance forms, insurance precertification’s, scheduling diagnostic testing, greeting patients, and answering phones including patient questions. This position requires someone who is savvy with electronic medical systems and can assist with documenting patient information in the system.
This position requires travel provided by the department as patients will be seen at different locations throughout the five boroughs of New York City, New Jersey and Westchester County.
Job Responsibilities:
- Triaging patients into exam rooms, including escorting patients to and from rooms
- Performing vital signs and EKGs to be documented in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Document patient medical conditions, complaints, and medication history in the EMR
- Scheduling diagnostic testing
- Exam room turnover after each patient
- Scan medical records in the EMR
- Hospital bed reservations for in-patients
- Oversee medical supply inventory
- Insurance pre-certifications
- Medical record requests from referring physicians and testing facilities
- Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalency required
- Graduate of a medical assisting course accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health (CAAHEP) or by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) required
- Certification by the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or other accredited body for CMA/RMA license required
- Five (5) plus years medical assistant experience
- Experience in communicating with insurance companies for pre-certifications and coverage approvals a must
- Strong ability to effectively communicate with other employees at all levels of the organization as well as the general public
- Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred
- Knowledge of interventional cardiology preferred
- Travel required throughout NYC and Westchester County required
Hourly Rate Ranges: $21.00 - $33.17
