Job Summary
Under the direction of the IT Director, the Senior DevOps Engineer is responsible for the administration, governance, and strategic enablement of the Azure DevOps platform across the organization. This role ensures that engineering teams are equipped with scalable, secure, and well-governed DevOps practices, and that the platform is maintained with high reliability and performance. The engineer will lead efforts to define best practices, enforce standards, and mentor teams in the effective use of Azure DevOps and related tools. In addition, they provide advanced support and troubleshooting for automation and deployment-related issues.
Responsibilities
Essential Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain the Azure DevOps platform, ensuring availability, performance, and scalability
- Define and enforce governance policies for project structure, branching strategies, permissions, and release pipelines
- Establish and maintain platform-wide standards for CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and artifact management
- Develop and promote best practices for DevOps workflows, including branching, versioning, testing, and deployment
- Implement and manage access controls, audit logging, and compliance requirements across the DevOps platform
- Ensure secure handling of secrets, credentials, and sensitive data within pipelines and repositories
- Support and govern infrastructure as code practices using tools such as Terraform, Git, Kubernetes, Argo, Bicep or ARM templates, etc.
- Integrate observability tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, Grafana, Prometheus) into DevOps workflows for proactive monitoring and alerting
- Manage and optimize build and release pipelines, container strategies, and deployment automation
- Stay current with Azure DevOps updates, industry trends, and emerging technologies to continuously improve platform capabilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
- 7+ years of proven experience as an SRE/DevOps Engineer with a focus on Microsoft Azure DevOps or related experience
- Proven experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code
- Strong understanding of Azure services, cloud architecture, and security best practices
- AZ-400 Certification (Azure DevOps Engineer Expert) strongly preferred
- Microsoft Power Platform suite (including Power Apps, Power Automate, and PowerBI), C# developed applications, Docker, LogicApps, Azure DevOps YAML Pipelines, PowerShell experience is preferred

Wipfli values fair, transparent, and competitive compensation, considering each candidate's unique skills and experiences. The estimated base pay range for this role is $88,000 to $118,000, with offers typically not made at the maximum, allowing for future salary increases. The actual salary at the time of offer depends on business related factors like location, skills, experience, training/education, licensure, certifications, business needs, current associate pay, and relevant employment laws.
Individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, subject to participation rules and based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual and Firm performance.
