Purpose of Position:
- This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Setting up and installing microphones, lights, video monitors, projectors, speakers, and video cameras
- Meeting with Event Coordinators to discuss audio, lighting, and video requirements.
- Altering venue arrangements according to layout diagrams.
- Laying electrical and sound cables.
- Conducting sound, visual, and performance quality checks on AV equipment.
- Inspecting mountings and electrical equipment to ensure they conform to health and safety regulations.
- Operating sound and visual equipment during live events.
- Troubleshooting equipment and ensuring events run smoothly.
- Disassembling audio and visual equipment and packing up after the event.
- Monitor events.
- Execute emergency procedures (such as building evacuations or medical emergencies).
Required Competencies
- Requires constant interaction with members of the university community and the general public.
Requires tone of firm-friendliness to enforce the rules and mission of the department and work efficiently and effectively with patrons and building staff.
Ability to conduct self in a manner that brings credit to the Memorial Union operations and the university.
Ability to attend all mandatory Audio/Visual Assistant staff training and meetings.
Be able to carry/move equipment/furniture/etc.
Ability to work independently without close supervision.
Willingness to ask questions.
Ability to work with diverse groups.
Ability to adapt to changing procedures and technologies.
Ability to problem solve creatively and effectively.
Ability to manage time and projects well.
Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including both evenings and rotating weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with various audio/visual equipment.
