Your Specific Responsibilities:
Incumbent conducts complex medical quality assurance investigations relating to alleged violations of the practice acts/rules under the jurisdiction of the Department. Investigates complaints of alleged malpractice among medical health care boards. Initiates subject notification procedures.
- Reviews and analyzes complaint documents/information.
- Prepares subpoenas to obtain medical records and other pertinent documents.
- Reviews and analyzes medical/hospital records, court records, lab reports, peer review records and other pertinent records.
- Contacts and interviews complainants, witnesses, and subjects.
- Coordinates investigative activity through legal counsel as requested or directed.
- Prepares comprehensive reports of final, supplemental and probation investigations.
- Coordinates investigations with federal, state, and local law enforcement officials and regulatory agencies as requested or directed by supervisor/manager.
- Coordinates and assists department legal/board staff regarding administrative hearings, subpoena service, administrative complaints, final orders, and disciplinary enforcement requests.
- Testifies and/or presents evidence at administrative hearings, depositions, or trials.
- Serves as member of the prosecution team as directed.
- Develops and maintains up-to-date professional contacts with risk managers, hospital administrators, nursing directors and other health care providers.
- Assists in allied health investigations as needed, participates in in-service training of medical investigative staff, conducts inspections, drug profiles and undercover investigations and serves as a mentor to new investigators, as directed.
