Director, Surveys & Analysis

A. General Description:

As ASHA’s Director of Surveys and Analysis you will lead a team of skilled researchers responsible for end-to-end delivery of ASHA’s survey operations. Leveraging your background in social research, survey methodology, and analytics you will help expand this team’s ability to deliver timely insights to ASHA staff, volunteers, members, and external originations that will drive decision-making in the Communication Sciences and Disorders discipline. In this position, you will collaborate across business units in ASHA as a trusted advisor, guiding stakeholder consultations to translate information needs into targeted survey instruments and focus groups and insightful reporting. Additionally, as a member of the Analytics and Surveys Cluster, you will work closely with the Senior Director of Analytics to integrate insights from research projects into ongoing operational reporting.

B. Responsibilities:

1. Lead and coach a team of researchers with varying expertise in survey methodology, qualitative research, and statistics.
2. Plan, conduct, and analyze survey projects in response to requests from National Office staff; Association committees, boards, councils; and other groups. 
3. Plan, conduct, and analyze evaluations of Association programs, products, and services such as conferences, resources and materials, and member benefits, offering the full range of available survey services. 
4. Prepare reports and make presentations to Association staff, committees, boards, and councils, and external groups, providing information on the Association’s internal and external (e.g., Bureau of Labor Statistics, Census Bureau) data resources.
5. Conduct specialized analyses of existing survey and operational data.
6. Develop and implement data management and governance policies for ongoing data collection and across existing survey datasets. 
7. Serve as a resource for ASHA staff, committees, boards, and councils, members, state speech-language-hearing associations, external professional organizations, and other groups that seek guidance for planning/conducting survey and evaluation research and statistical analysis.
8. Provide expert technical assistance for the National Office, ASHA affiliates, and other organizations on the Association’s survey and qualitative data resources. 

C. Contacts:

Reports to the Senior Director of Analytics– regarding goals, objectives, and status related to survey, evaluation, and data-gathering activities.

To accomplish responsibilities listed above, the incumbent has contact with:

1. National Office staff, ASHA committees, boards, and councils, members, state speech-language-hearing associations, and external professional organizations such as ASAE– in order to consult, design, and oversee the conduct of survey projects and present results.
2. Outside agencies such as the American Evaluation Association and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics – in order to identify, devise, and incorporate new survey and evaluation methodologies and provide data on the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology.
3. ASHA constituents – in order to provide expert technical assistance.
4. Vendors – in order to solicit bids, select vendors, and monitor work on outsourced survey and research activities.

D. Freedom to Act:

The incumbent works under the direction of the Senior Director of Analytics. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate independent decision-making regarding technical issues in the implementation, conduct, and reporting of all Association surveys, evaluation, and data-gathering activities. Broad latitude is given to the position to determine approaches, procedures, and methodologies for accomplishing the work. Work receives administrative review from the Senior Director of Analytics.

E. Qualifications – Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Knowledge and skills typically acquired through:

• Master’s degree in survey methodology, public policy, statistics, data science, psychology, or related field
• Five or more years of experience in the use and application of survey research methodology, program evaluation, and statistical analysis
• Experience supervising. 
• Experience at a nonprofit association is preferred.

Scope and depth of technical skills/knowledge:

• Demonstrated skills in and knowledge of survey research methodology, program evaluation, sampling, and advanced quantitative and qualitative statistical analysis.
• Demonstrated intermediate-level skills in the use of statistical analysis, web-based survey platforms, database, data visualization, and word processing software (SPSS, Power BI, Survey Monkey, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word pref
