Overview

Chestnut Health Systems is seeking a part-time or full-time Dental Hygienist to work at our Bloomington, IL location.

Responsibilities

  • Provide office-related business support services including, but not limited to: scheduling, greeting patients, checking patients in/out, taking phone messages or transferring calls, scanning and attaching in EMR insurance cards and other patient records, and collecting and documenting patient copayments.
  • Prepare for following day appointments by reviewing patient chart and identifying care gaps, obtaining outside records, and gathering all necessary paperwork.
  • Perform rooming of health center patients. This may include, but is not limited to:  greeting patients, escorting patients to exam room, interview patients for the purpose of gathering health history, hospital history, dental history and current medications.  Accurately and timely record information gathered in appropriate places in EMR.
  • Accurately take and document vital signs. Be familiar with Vitals Section of CFHC P&P Handbook associated normal and abnormal ranges.  Know when to seek assistance from nurses or providers when vitals fall outside of acceptable ranges. 
  • Provide high-quality, patient-centered, culturally sensitive services to patients.
  • Chart dental conditions based on dentist’s observations and evaluations.
  • Sterilize dental instruments in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and agency policies and procedures.
  • Educate patients and parents of patients on maintaining proper oral health and the importance of proper dental hygiene and care.
  • Clinical duties: take X-rays of patients’ teeth and develop them for dentist’s use. Oral prophylaxis including supra-gingival and sub-gingival removal of plaque and calculus. Placement of pit and fissure sealants.  Application of fluoride varnish.  Create molds of patients’ teeth in preparation for restorative procedures.  Administer and monitor nitrous oxide sedation as necessary (certification required).  Administer local anesthetic as necessary (certification required).  Demonstrate mastery of these required dental techniques and procedures.
  • Provide chair-side assistance to the dentist during dental procedures when requested or as-needed.
  • Meet or exceed productivity and quality measures and documentation deadlines as outlined in the CFHC Dental Provider Expectations document.
  • Communicate with dental staff on team regarding patient treatment plans.
  • Actively participate in multi-disciplinary team staffing and consultation activities including team huddles, meetings and/or calls; as well as program development activities to improve services to patients and educate staff on relevant topics.
  • Staff cases with Dentist and/or Dental Director and/or Dental Manager when appropriate.
  • Complete all Relias trainings by deadlines assigned. Complete required education hours to maintain license.
  • Perform services diligently and faithfully, in accordance with the Corporate Bylaws and policies of Chestnut or affiliated corporate entities, with the same quality and practice of medicine performed in the community in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and applicable codes of conduct and the Joint Commission.
  • Assist Chestnut in complying with all applicable standards as required by HRSA, the Joint Commission and other applicable accrediting organizations, licensing bodies and payers.
  • Complete financial, credentialing/privileging documentation within the expected timeframes as outlined in the CFHC Provider Expectations Guide and/or policy.
  • Promote Chestnut’s culture of customer service excellence through the adherence to Chestnut’s behavioral standards for customer service.
  • Maintain and protect confidentiality and security of all organizational information gained in the course of performing job responsibilities including, but not limited to, financial and consumer information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
