Automation Software Engineer

An an Automation Software Engineer, you will provide the team with a road map for how software systems can be used to orchestrate events within a VFX pipeline. You will leverage your extensive knowledge of distributed systems, task schedulers, and render queues to build sophisticated automation workflows. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable spinning up services in docker containers and writing integration code in DCC applications, and has acquired a keen sense for where to use open source and off-the-shelf tools and where to augment with bespoke development.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, design, build and solve complex, systematic problems in the domain of automation workflows
• Gather requirements across large collaboration efforts that span multiple departments and/or disciplines
• Write technical briefs and user documentation
• Partner with software development leadership and pipeline team to identify and schedule tasks

Qualifications

• Expert in Python development skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience designing complex and reusable automation workflows spanning multiple processes and DCC's
• Familiarity with render queues such as AWS Thinkbox Deadline
• Familiarity with Pub/Sub & RPC messaging patterns
• Hands on experience with orchestration & stream processing frameworks such as Beam, Airflow, Conductor, Metaflow, Spark, Flink, Kafka, Celery, etc
• Experience with the following DCCs: Maya, Houdini, Nuke
• Ability to author Docker images
• Familiarity with using Kubernetes to deploy services
• Experience with sequence-based workflows, such as Solaris and Katana
• Knowledge of SQL and ability to author schemas
• Familiarity with Agile methodology
