Description

The RF Test Tuner Technician 3 performs the setup and calibration of a network analyzer. Tuner is responsible for tuning and testing of RF microwave filters with built using a variety of techniques including: Ceramic, lumped element, cavity, and combine.

Key Responsibilities

  • A working understanding of the RF and DC testing that is completed in support of production hardware.
  • Primary work load consists of tuning microwave band pass, low pass, highpass, and Bandreject filters in a production scheduled atmosphere with a variety of different technologies and transform functions. 
  • Calibrate network analyzers with calibration kits, attaching fixtures, cables, attenuation pads as needed for the different filter configurations as required.
  • A working understanding of proper tuning techniques; including tuning with tabs and lumped elements in high power RF amplifiers with limited supervision.
  • A working understanding of troubleshooting techniques and the common problems seen in the production hardware.
  • A working understanding of the use and proper calibration of the test equipment that is used in support of testing high power RF amplifiers, including but not limited to: Vector Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Power Meters and Signal Generators, with limited supervision
  • Be able to clearly communicate and interact with the responsible engineers and the necessary production and manufacturing personnel to resolve production related issues within the program.
  • Understand the program hardware flow (steps) and role within that flow to better coordinate the overall program test effort with the scheduled time allotment.
  • Ensure all program documentation and test data records are complete and accurate, and provided on a timely basis for review.
  • Ensure the test tasks assigned are done in the most efficient and effective manner.
  • Maintain close security and protect the company’s assets from damage, including test equipment and tools.
  • Ensure that the quality control functions are properly performed such as Used-On Log and equipment calibration.
  • Ensure personnel safety procedures are followed at all times and/or highlight and raise concern to the appropriate personnel if safety hazards are found.
  • Ensure company compliance in accordance with AS9100.
  • Follow customer specification based on traveler.
  • Tune and test component for lumped element, ceramic, and cavity filters to specification.
  • Collaborate with Supervisor to optimize filter designs for better quality, modify
  • Ensure that all data is filled out correctly.
  • Temperature cycle chamber per customer requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Associates degree or technical school preferred.
  • 5 years of experience with tuning at least one of the following topologies being Band pass, Lowpass, High pass, couplers, Elliptic, Pseudo elliptic or Delay and Amplitude equalizers.
  • 5 years of experience with tuning in at least one of a variety of different technologies including coaxial ceramic, ceramic puck Tm mode, Discrete lumped element, Distributed Combline or Interdigital, cavity Tm mode, waveguide of suspended substrate micro strip or strip line or Tubular filters.
  • Ability to tune ceramic filters.
  • Ability to shift focus between data screens and manual work.
  • Ability to communicate and Interface with Engineers, Technician lead, Production Supervisor, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Accurate fine motor skills and ability to work under a microscope for 8 hours.
  • Strong communication and verbal skills are essential.
  • Must be able to operate basic computer software, equipment, and keyboard.
  • Ability to understand written or oral instructions.
  • Willing and able to work overtime as needed.
