Job Summary
The Vice President, Senior Physician Executive, Medical Group will be pivotal in leading and overseeing all aspects of the Medical Group’s operations, strategic direction, and growth initiatives. With a primary focus on delivering exceptional patient care, fostering provider and colleague satisfaction, and driving organizational success, the VP leads the clinical and operational teams of all medical group practices in a dynamic and diverse healthcare environment. The VP provides leadership, direction, strategic planning and administrative oversight of all aspects of Medical Group operations and physician practices to ensure compliance with established goals and objectives, consistent with MVHS mission, vision, and values.
The Vice President, Senior Physician Executive, Medical Group will report to the Chief Medical Officer and work closely with the Chief Physician Practice Executive and will be supported by a team of direct reports and matrixed team of resources.
Core Job Responsibilities
Cultivating an Engaged Culture
- Establishes relationships with members of the MVHS Medical Group, engaging providers in the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-focused care.
- Engages physicians in process improvement and the dissemination of best practices across the Medical Group.
- Provides resources and support to enable strong physician and provider performance.
- Promotes provider, employee, and patient engagement.
- Establishes and promotes a unified culture of open communication, respect, teamwork, safety, accountability, and kindness among leadership, providers, and employees.
- Fosters a culture that promotes the highest levels of patient satisfaction, employee and provider engagement, and efficiency.
Operational and Strategic Leadership
- Partners with leadership to refine and lead the overall strategy of MVHS Provider practices. Studies the healthcare and competitive landscape to maximize opportunities for MVHS.
- Strengthens and aligns the business and clinical objectives across the continuum of patient care, positioning MVHS for the future of healthcare across all primary and specialty care clinics.
- Monitors and addresses key outcomes including clinical quality, service, operations, patient satisfaction, and community impact using metrics and benchmarks.
- Hardwires responsive and proactive operating processes to meet growth and performance objectives.
- Improves patient access, productivity, and efficiency across outpatient practices.
- Ensures accurate scheduling and productivity monitoring for practices and providers.
- Evaluates operations, policies, and processes, leading improvement projects to enhance clinical integration and operational effectiveness.
- Establishes accountability through clear goals, ensuring consistency of care across practices.
- Provides leadership to Medical Group directors, practice managers, and operations staff.
- Builds collaborative teams across departments such as Hospitalists, Finance, HR, IT, and Support Services.
- Assists in resolving patient complaints and staff/provider grievances.
- Participates in Administrator On Call rotation.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensures consistent, high-quality patient care and compliance with regulations and medical standards.
- Tracks quality metrics, creates action plans, and drives continuous improvement.
- Reduces variation across practices through evidence-based medicine, ensuring a universal patient experience.
- Performs related duties as directed.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Medical Degree (MD, DO) from an AMA accredited Medical School.
- Minimum 15 years of progressively responsible management experience in a multi-specialty Medical Group or Community Medicine practice management with an emphasis on program development, financial management and performance improvement.
- Expertise in physician/provider relations and contract negotiation.
- Extensive knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle, project management, process improvement methods, strategic planning and provider/practice-related policy and procedure development.
- Outstanding relationship, teambuilding, presentation, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
PREFERRED:
- Master’s degree in health care or business administration.
- Experience in large medical group operations.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
PREFERRED:
- NYS Medical License
- Membership in American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
