TITLE

Advance Practice Provider

JOB SUMMARY 

The Advance Practice Provider will be responsible for providing patient care as a part of a health care team in the Texas Woman’s University Student Health Center, including patient diagnoses, treatment, education and referrals. Serves as a resource and role model for clinical practice, training, evaluation and direct management of practitioners and students in all areas encompassed by the service line to ensure optimal patient care quality. Assist leadership in assessing, planning, organizing, and implementing designated advanced practice provider activities. Work is performed under the protocol and supervision of a qualified and licensed physician and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to:  Staff Physician     

Supervises: RN’s, LVNs, Medical Assistants              

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

  • Performs as a clinical practitioner alongside physicians, nurses and other staff as a part of the TWU SHS primary health care team. Obtains histories, performs physical exams, makes assessments, orders tests to adequately assess to determine diagnoses and plan of care.
  • Identifies health needs of individuals through a systemic assessment utilizing professional skills, health history, physical evaluation, laboratory tests, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Records health history, findings, treatment and recommendations accurately, clearly, and concisely. Manages time effectively to ensure optimal use of patient and provider resources. Consults appropriately with supervising physicians and refers patients to campus and/or community resources as necessary to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Develops and records a plan of care to meet the individual needs. Includes patients in determining the plan of care, when appropriate. Educates patients to ensure self-management, follow-up, and compliance with established treatment.
  • Provides orientation, clinical guidance and supervision and evaluation of RN, LVN, and Medical Assistants as assigned.  
  • Supports interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure continuous quality care and to promote positive health outcomes with a focus on good customer service and patient satisfaction.
  • Participates in programs, activities and outreach intended to educate the campus community about maintaining health and wellness and/or to prevent illness and/or to restore health and wellbeing.  
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements and trends in the practice field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations. Participates in SHS education programs and activities.
  • Maintains and implements knowledge of all applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the respective APP fields. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Maintains current professional certifications and licensure as required by the organization and the APP’s governing body. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding. 
  • Ensures timely completion of all assigned modules and yearly SHS obligations as defined by the corporate compliance department.
  • Identifies work processes and flows within SHS. Suggests appropriate changes to improve work effectiveness, productivity and efficiency that support the overall goals of SHS or the area. Consistently provides quality customer service to internal and external SHS customers.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, and monitoring annual goals and objectives for the department that support the mission and objectives of SHS and the department. 
  • Attends regular staff meetings.
  • Establishes job standards for subordinate staff and effectively evaluates staff under charge. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.
