Working under the supervision by Drs Fu and Zhu, the data scientist (DS) will play a key role in medical research and preparing publications. The DS is responsible for all respects of statistical considerations from early phase engagement (protocol, study design), trial monitoring and data analysis with support from database administrators, to the final stage of research report and scientific dissemination from a variety of research projects (clinical and pre-clinical), especially cancer research across campus, primarily within the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. The DS will perform analysis of genomic data generated from large consortium. The DS is also responsible in assisting for the development of research grant and contract proposals and/or post-award reports to funding agencies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. In consultation with the investigator(s) and collaborators, design research projects, as well as their hypotheses and analytical needs. Design, manage, and analyze the biostatistical and genomic components of projects and experiments with a high degree of independence. Provide interpretation of various statistical and spatial/mapping outputs, develop predictions, and make recommendations on study design. (15%)

Lead and perform data analyses including but not limited to survival, regression, univariate, multivariate, machine learning and related analyses. Determine the appropriate computational requirements for the given research project and help design and execute the data analysis. May perform required programming and analysis for multiple research studies as assigned. (20%)
3. Prepare result summaries. Generate analysis reports including the results and documentation of the algorithms. Apply appropriate statistical methods and/or collaborate with the team to ensure statistical rigor of results. (20%)
4. Design, code, test, debug, modify and document moderately complex systems requiring knowledge of databases, processes, and scripts. (10%)
5. Provide supervision, technical guidance and training of staff applying biostatistical approaches. Supervise team members in the design, writing, debugging, testing, and documenting statistical programs using standard statistical software packages, including SAS and R, and spatial analysis software. May directly supervise research assistants and technicians. (10%)
6. Provide data visualization for academic publication and research presentations. Present data and findings at laboratory meetings and scientific meetings, seminars, etc. Prepare manuscripts and contribute data analysis and interpretation for grant proposals. Independently author research projects. (20%)
