Position Overview:As a member of the FM Business Services group, the Payroll Business Services Specialist serves as the lead HR representative for Facilities Management, performing specialized administrative duties in support of the HR function for over 100 FM employees.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, the incumbent is responsible for providing payroll and hiring support to over 100 employees in the Facilities Management department. Primary duties include:
- Process all payroll and human resources paperwork for all hiring, transfers, terminations or other actions for all employee types
- Interpret, review and process time entry and other personnel data in PeopleSoft
- Ensure compliance with university payroll policies and procedures and advise department staff with respect to those policies
- Review current processes and procedures and make recommendations for business process improvements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Six years progressively responsible experience in a combination of budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing, and personnel work
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; basic organizational and analytical skills; ability to manage multiple assignments under established deadlines.
- Ability to understand and interpret university policies in areas such as human resources, finance and payroll; ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters and information with discretion and tact; a commitment to exemplary customer service skills.
- Experience with PeopleSoft HR database
- Experience with Assetworks or other IWMS/CMMS time keeping
- Knowledge of AFSCME collective bargaining and University System of MD HR policies
