This is Worldline

We are the innovators at the heart of the payments technology industry, shaping how the world pays and gets paid. The solutions our people build today power the growth of millions of businesses tomorrow. From your local coffee shop to unicorns and international banks. From San Francisco to Singapore. We are in every corner of the world, in every part of commerce.  And just as we help our customers accelerate their business, we are committed to helping our people accelerate their careers. Together, we shape the evolution.

In North America, we design, implement and operate a range of digital and transactional systems and services across the transport, hospitality, health, retail and public sectors, with payments at the heart of our products.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a bright and enthusiastic homebased (remote) US qualified lawyer with 6 + years experience in the Payments or IT industry to join a small team of senior lawyers supporting Worldline’s business in the US and Canada.

With such a wide array of products, you will find the work is varied, often complex and the pace is fast. We work very closely with the commercial, sales and operational teams so this is an opportunity to be deeply involved with the organization and to enjoy relationships at all levels.

On a day to day basis you will be supporting the business by advising on sales opportunities, preparing and negotiating contracts for solutions that have been sold and advising the business on appropriate contractual structures for new business offerings. Most contracts that we deal with are related to the customer or to the solutions that we offer, offering variety and interest to your day to day work. As a member of the team you will be supported by other more experienced members of the team to understand the business products and how we contract for them.

The legal team supports all legal issues that face a company. Therefore there are opportunities to be involved in supporting the wider legal needs of the business including corporate, regulatory compliance, requirements, data protection issues, to support the procurement function, to work with members of the contract management  team and be involved in managing any disputes that might arise.

The Team

The legal team is a friendly and collegiate team and you will be well supported by more senior members of the team in your new role. We are a truly cohesive team but we all work remotely from all over the world. You need to be happy to work remotely but also be prepared to travel to meetings as and when required.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Manage your own workload, supported by the Head of Legal for North America and other team members in business units located outside of the US and even outside of North America.
  • Work closely with the business to understand the business sales propositions and the technology behind them, to support the business in responding to customer needs and sometimes formal RFPs.
  • Prepare and negotiate a very wide range of customer and supplier contracts (from NDAs to complex multiyear IT solutions) all relating to digital products delivered business to business and in some cases from business to consumer.
  • Support the business in managing litigations and disputes.
  • Advise the business on a wide range of non contractual issues – such as data protection, intellectual property, procurement, and corporate issues.
  • Maintain the North American entity and corporate structure in both the US and Canada by preparing resolutions and completing filing with appropriate governmental authorities.
  • Work with the full legal team to design and keep updated template documents, training to the business and work on other ad hoc initiatives to drive efficiency and excellence within the team and the wider business.

Who are we looking for?

We look for creative people who can drive positive change, step up and show what’s next – people with passion, can-do attitude and a hunger to learn and grow. In practice this means:

  • You are a US qualified lawyer with 6 + years solid experience in the Payments or IT industry.  Canadian qualifications would be a benefit.
  • You've got substantial knowledge and understanding of US contract law and a solid understanding of intellectual property law and data protection legislation. A knowledge of the laws applied by the financial conduct authority within the payments sector would be a benefit.
  • You have knowledge of Canadian contract law and experience with Canadian corporate laws, regulations and fil
