VP, Head of Americas Data Analytics

About the role

The Head is responsible for forming a view on the Data Analytics Solutions (DAS) team’s regional strategy, ensuring appropriate prioritization of projects and executing the strategy in the Americas by leveraging cross-regional/function resources. 
A strong focus will be to support our SCOR digital solutions expansion in the Americas by supporting the development of predictive risk models and the roll-out our new GenAI-powered solution.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Set the Americas strategy, roadmap and vision for each the Life & Health domain for how predictive analytics can best be used to achieve SCOR business objectives. Act as a leader for data science and machine learning engineering colleagues in our pursuit of that strategy.
  • Manage the portfolio of AI projects, prioritizing those with the most significant and measurable impact on the organization's goals, and focusing particularly on underwriting transformation use cases.
  • Coach product owners and other relevant stakeholders in the prioritization and execution of model-driven service offerings and on-going service enhancements using Agile methodologies.
  • Fine-tune our governance framework for data analytics use cases, outlining processes, meetings, and communication channels to ensure structured and effective management throughout the lifecycle of each case.
  • Proactively seek and identify potential AI use cases by collaborating with internal stakeholders, staying abreast of industry trends, and leveraging insights to drive informed decision-making.
  • Serve as a leader and/or subject matter expert on L&H research and development teams.
  • Lead and/or support innovation initiatives for the Americas.
  • Support the cultivation of SCOR’s brand in the marketplace as “a trusted advisor who helps clients accelerate innovation and scout the future” through client meetings, articles, webinars, publications, speaking engagements, and participation on industry committees.
  • Collaborate effectively with the wider DAS team outside of the Americas to leverage learnings from other markets.
  • Build strong connections with the Americas L&H business teams to ensure the DAS team meets the needs of our internal users and our external clients.
  • Manage the Americas-based members of the DAS team (mostly data scientists).
  • Adhere to all Information Security policies and best practices, including security awareness training and other information protection initiatives. 
  • Help define a data acquisition strategy.

Required experience & competencies

  • 10+ years of combined data science and actuarial experience required. 
  • Good knowledge of L&H data analytics topics.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the Americas L&H insurance industry and strong market connections is a plus.
  • Staff management experience required; 3+ years of experience preferred.
  • Ability to understand a business objective by engaging with business stakeholders to create a vision and roadmap that a team can follow to achieve that business objective.
  • Competent in statistical/data science programming language such as R or Python.
  • Knowledge of predictive modeling, mortality analysis, underwriting implications on mortality, statistical modeling, and actuarial science
  • Intellectual curiosity and demonstrated ability to research and solve complex technical problems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to understand audiences and effectively communicate technical concepts.
  • Ability to formulate a product vision, prioritize work in alignment to that vision and clearly communicate acceptance criteria for that work. 
  • Technically astute within the actuarial and data science disciplines. 
  • Highly motivated, self-directed worker capable of developing detailed tasks from abstract assignments.
  • Capable of developing a high degree of psychological safety within teams and inspiring others.

  • Ability to identify and assess accurate sources of information
  • Ability to use security tools when browsing the web
  • Ability to avoid malicious websites, scams and pop-up windows
  • Awareness of copyright; protect personal data; respect privacy of others/third parties

 

Required Education 

A graduate/PhD in a scientific discipline.
