Job Summary:

Responsible for the coordination and assessment of professional development programs facilitated by the Faculty Development Center (FDC) and the Office of Writing Programs (OWP) team. These programs include single-session and ongoing workshop series, teaching and pedagogical support teams, and professional growth initiatives for faculty and academic staff that align with Furman's strategic vision. The successful candidate has and continues to build adaptive skills that include responsibility for the daily operations of both offices, specialized event planning, communication, and efficient, effective administrative, analytical, program support. The most successful candidates for this position thrive in a collegial unit in which constructive feedback for improvement and celebrating successes are the norm.

Job Description:

Responsibilities

The FDC and OWP support faculty and academic staff professional development across campus and in the broader academic community. The Faculty Development Center Programs Coordinator advances this expanding mission across FDC, OWP, and other faculty programs.

Over the past seven years, program participation has grown steadily. As of Fall 2025, we reach more than 72% of full-time instructional faculty and a range of full-time academic staff. This growth and ongoing campus demand require dedicated support from a professional with adaptive skills in event planning, communication, program management, and analytical support for evidence-based pedagogical effectiveness, The Furman Advantage, and the Furman Focused strategic plan.

Program Coordination & Event Management (45%)

Coordinate existing and emerging programs and events throughout the process including planning, registration, physical and virtual set-up, and post-event communication and assessment. These duties include:

  • Collecting data during program brainstorming with the FDC team to generate programs and events; cross-referencing proposed events with university schedule to ensure alignment

  • Designing automated registration and reminder processes

  • Designing accurate and visually effective print and digital presentation materials (e.g., a semester program flyer, accessible digital signage advertising programming, etc.)

  • Placing catering, technology, and room/location reservations

  • Assisting with event set-up and post-event activities

  • Just in time problem-solving to support an optimal learning environment for participants

  • Coordinating faculty peer coaching and students as pedagogical partners programs

  • Coordinating hybrid participation in events including monitoring Zoom, engaging remote participants in the chat, and uploading relevant digital materials in real time

  • Coordinating accurate captioning and uploading of Learning by Design support videos developed in-house

  • Ensuring all FDC/OWP professional development support materials are ADA compliant and meet accessibility resource guidelines

  • Coordinating logistics related to hosting regional or nation
