MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or related field and five (5) years of experience implementing large scale systems of virtualization, storage and network integrations in a supportive and/or co-managed role OR Associates degree in Computer Science or related field and six (7) years of experience implementing large scale systems of virtualization, storage and network integrations in a supportive and/or co-managed role OR ten (10) years of experience implementing large scale systems of virtualization, storage and network integrations in a supportive and/or co-managed role.
Proven strong system administration skills.
Demonstrable experience with Linux (Ubuntu, RedHat) and Windows Server (2022, 2025) above the basic system administration level.
Demonstrable experience with scripting and automation (Powershell, Bash, Python, etc.)
Demonstrable knowledge of large-scale systems of storage (SAN, NAS, CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, etc.) and virtualization (VMware).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with Powershell, Active Directory, GPO, NetApp, SAML2, PDQ, MDT, and Microsoft Technologies including Azure.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Senior Systems Engineer reports to the Managing Senior Systems Engineer and/or CTO and performs the following duties:
• Addresses all needs related to the twin datacenters' proper operation, including energy and climate controls.
• Assists the Managing Senior Systems Engineers with all hardware and software acquisition for data centers and critical infrastructure including Netapp, HPE, and VMware.
• Implements and manages all SSO components to ensure access management of college services. (SAML2)
• Performs all monitoring, assessing, and sizing of infrastructure.
• Performs all threat assessments regarding CVEs and vendor patch releases.
• Provides installation, configuration, programming, and support of college-adopted microcomputer operating systems, server operating systems, microcomputer and server application software, and web deployment software in a large server environment to address the needs and requirements of students, faculty, and staff for items shown by, but not limited to, the following list:
o Responsible for maintenance and security of operating system software, application software, web deployment software, data integrity, user accounts, and virtual environments.
o Implementation of open source and commercially available software for both on-premises and cloud environments.
o Security assessments, performance monitoring, and load balancing.
o Works collaboratively with the infrastructure support staff for maintenance, problem resolution, and upgrade installed college-adopted microcomputer, server, and web deployment software.
o Provides consultative support on microcomputer, server, and web deployment information technology issues to other departmental staff.
o Co-maintain the VDI environment’s Windows 11 image (or any other necessary image in VMware).
