Your Specific Responsibilities:

The incumbent, an employee of the DeSoto County Health Department, represents the agency and its mission and values.  The incumbent is part of the organization and is expected to promote cooperation, couresty and teamwork in a diverse enviroment.  This is a dental hygienist position that will provide direct and indirect services in structured and non-structured environments for the CHD dental program under the direction and supervision of the Dental Executive Director.

 

The incumbent will perform all duties and may be delegated remediable task, and responsibilities as well as other support services as required.  These support services include but are not limited to:  preparing dental reports and records, supply orders, maintains sterilization of dental instruments, remove calculus deposits, accretions and stains from exposed surfaces of teeth, performs gingival curettage and root planning, pre-assesses and charts suspected findings of the oral cavity, takes vital signs, records procedures performed in treatment record, places, exposes, processes  dental  radiographic film, applies sealants and topical fluorides, polishes clinical crowns and amalgam restorations, instructs patients in oral hygiene care and supervises patient oral hygiene care.

 

Promotes, develops, and conducts community and educational programs, conducts records reviews, and monitors infection control programs.  Performs dental screenings, prophylaxis, sealants, fluoride treatments as part of the School Sealant Program to students in 5 DeSoto County School settings. Prints all dental forms; works with the local school system to promote the school-based sealant program.  Retrieves and reviews the consent; schedules times at each school to provide services, loads and transports equipment, instruments, and supplies in county vehicle; and sets up in designated area to provide services; packs all items and transports to the next treatment location. Orders and maintains appropriate amounts of supplies and printed paperwork.

 

Incumbent is required to complete not less than 24 hours of continuing professional education in dental subjects, biennially, in programs prescribed or approved by the board or in equivalent programs of continuing education for re-licensure.  Incumbent will participate in DCHD mandatory trainings, staff development days, QI, and other functions as required.
